The KIJHL is the Kootenay hockey league, with teams littered throughout the interior of British Columbia. As per the way B.C. hockey tends to operate, players in this league are a variety of ages, with some being hopeful prospects for higher levels, and others running out the clock.

Players in in the KIJHL can be WHL draft picks or BCHL hopefuls since AAA hockey in B.C. is still not the main route for players to move up the ranks.

In this league, players will have longer travel compared to other leagues, but they will also play for and against longstanding franchises. Unlike most Junior B leagues, the KIJHL is scouted by higher levels of hockey and players in this league do have a shot to move up if they are young enough. Many also serve as affiliates for teams at higher levels.
